Finding a Perfect Match
Now that I have your attention let's be honest there is nothing perfect about life and you're never going to find a perfect match. That being said there are some things to think about in finding the best match. I have been happily married for almost three years and let me tell you like any other relationship it sure does have its ups and downs. That being said I honestly could not think of another women that I would rather being spending the rest of my life with.
The old saying is opposites attract and while this can be somewhat misleading it is true. You can't have two type A personalities in one relationship nor can you have two personalities that are very passive. In either of these cases you'll end up killing each other or never getting anything done. Take a look at your friends and family and find the successful relationships there will always be one strong personality and one that is more passive. You know which one you are now go and start your search by finding someone who is the opposite.
Next are personal habits, I don't think it's possible for a slob and a neat freak to co habitat. For my wife and I we are both interested in not having clutter and because of this we rarely ever argue about something that isn't clean or organized and put away. These seemingly little things can be deal breakers, I dated a slob for years and amongst other problems this ended the relationship.
Personal habits aren't just about how clean your home is, think of travel, eating habits, education and what you like to do in your free time. While the last one can easily be managed you need some activities that you can do in common. My wife hates skiing and I love it we both however love to go hiking. Hobbies can be opposite however if you're a healthy eater and your partner is a fast food junkie you're going to have issues. This also goes for someone who has no interest in leaving their town against someone who needs to travel the world. These are where opposites won't work.
Then there is sex and to me this needs to be discussed in detail before even considering marriage. This is also where opposites won't attract you really do need to be on or close to the same page. Frequency, do you prefer being made love to or making the love, are you into extracurricular sexual activities? I believe you need to be similar in these areas as sex is a big part of any healthy relationship.
In all honesty picking your partner is the most important thing we do in our lives and it really helps to get it right. You need to find someone that will support you when you need it and even when you're not asking for it. This type of understanding can be so wonderful in family life, business and when it's just the two of you. There is nothing quite like knowing your partner believes in your abilities, this for me is a must in any relationship.
Whether you're using an internet dating service or maybe visiting a local bar or church to find that special someone, take your time, do your homework and most of all think of the important things that will affect your relationship down the road. Once you're past the smitten stage you need to think about these issues it will save you time, stress and money down the road.
