What Is The Bass Fishing Hall Of Fame?

Formerly the Professional Bass Fishing Hall of Fame, the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame is dedicated to honoring the sport of Bass Fishing's legends. The term 'professional' was dropped after it was decided the organization should honor all anglers, media, fans, industry officials, and everyone involved in making the sport what it is. There are, after all, people from all facets of the fishing industry who have contributed to making the sport what it has become, and the mission of the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame is to honor these contributors.

The organization was established in 2001, and 2008, four new members are scheduled to be inducted into the esteemed ranks of the Bass fishing hall of fame. The official ceremony will be held at the Birmingham Civic Center. The new inductees are: Dee Thomas, Stan Fagarstrom, Basil Bacon, and the late Bill Norman.

Anyone can become a member of the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame and have the opportunity to nominate individuals for induction, and vote for the nominees to be included in the ranks of the hall of fame. The Bass Fishing Hall of Fame is, and always has been, a non-profit organization and will remain dedicated to all bass fishermen, anglers, bass fishing equipment manufacturers, and members of the media who have worked so hard to promote and further bass fishing as a sport. The bass fishing hall of fame also intends to recognize the fans and the families of bass fishing, who have all contributed to the success of the sport.

There is a facility planned to house the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame as well.
Mike Wurm, a very well known bass angler from Arkansas, who also happens to be on the board of directors for the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame, will be sporting the bass fishing hall of fame logo on his boat during the season in 2008. In fact, the debut of the logo on his boat will occur at Greenville, South Carolina's 2008 Bassmaster Classic. This will commemorate his 13th season as a professional bass angler.

On May 25, the final weigh in at the Hall of Fame Championship will be held, along with a trade show, at the Hot Springs Convention Center in Hot Springs, Arkansas. New inductees will be:Guido Hibdon, Cotton Cordell, Denny Brauer, Jimmy Houston, Bob Cobb, and Johnny Morris. Cordell is a well known lure designer, Brauer is the all time B.A.S.S. Money winner, Houston is a TV fishing host and multi-classic qualifier, and Cobb is the former editor of Bassmaster Magazine. So, as you can see, there are people from all facets of bass fishing included in the ranks of the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame.

Those who elect to come to the tournament will get the opportunity to rub elbows with bass fishing royalty. Many of last year's inaugural inductees will be present. Inducted last year were: Bobby Murray, Ray Scott, Rick Clunn, Larry Nixon, Bill Dance, Roland Martin, Forrest Wood, and Homer Circle.Murray is the first bass classic winner. Scott is the B.A.S.S.
