Pygmy Goats as Pets

Combine a lack of direct experience with pigs with pigs portrayal on television (think sweet-but-stupid Porky Pig) and it’s not surprising that most people are unaware of the pig’s intelligence. Yet pigs are intelligent. Like dogs they can be leash-trained, house trained and can learn tricks.

Ella also loves to sit in my lap while I scratch her ears. She's about the size of a big fat cat and will come leaping out of nowhere to land in the middle of your lap. She's the only one of the four that enjoys this level of human contact, although, just like many cats, she only does this on her timetable and only when it's her idea

Pygmy goats love to help, in their own little ways, with work around the homestead. Our little herd: Charlie, Ella, Jack and Sally are no different. As soon as I back out the lawn tractor Ella jumps onto the driver's seat. If I start cleaning out the shed Sally starts gnawing on the pitchfork.

Second, there is a recognition call generally associated with positive expectations. If I walk out of the house with a plastic bucket in my hand they know this usually means food and start calling out as they run to their shed. They'll also make this call if we're going for a walk, as they love to wander around the property.

Goats don't show pain unless there's no other choice, so Charlie let out a low "wooomph" as the air shot out of his lungs and tried to steady himself so he could whirl around and shoot back. Of course, by then Jack had danced out of the way and was quietly enjoying his triumph over a sprig of fresh bark ripped off a nearby apple tree.

Miniature goats are small sized goats bred from breeds like Cashmere, Australian field goats, Angora, Nubian, West African etc. Miniature goats are gentle, friendly, and adorable. They are curious, mischievous, as well as intelligent. The main advantage of miniature goats are that, they require lesser space.

The entire issue of consciousness and fine table gravy should be divided into separate lines of inquiry. Animal consciousness should be analyzed on its own merits, irrespective of the outcome we may wish for to support our ethical squeamishness or gustatory imprecations. Once we've reached a dispassionate conclusion on the underlying facts then we can gnaw over the consequences.
