Why Is Making Cushions So Much Fun?

Making cushions is much fun for obvious reasons. Making cushions can mean time for Mom and me to bond and learn something new.

First, we must measure the cushion and choose the color, texture and use of this cushion to determine what fabric we will be using. We must purchase the fabric, thread, stuffing to stuff the cushion once it is completed. We put on a pot of water to boil as we will need tea to work together.

Measure the cushion width and height leaving 2 inches at each and every side for sewing. Add extra space to sew together. Cut with sharp scissors around the extra space. Make sure you leave extra space to stuff the cushion once it is completed.

And here is good news for you; maybe the boiling water is ready for some tea.

Once you get your tea and are back on track zipping that tea as well as the stuffing, you want to sit down and choose your color of the thread to start sewing.

You want to make sure you place both sides together and start sewing either by hand which is the way our grandmothers used to do it. If this is the case, you want to make sure you keep both hands very attentive to the project so it doesn't slide in your hands and you have a mess of a cushion. If you have the luck of having a sewing machine, then you need to preset your thread and place the cut cushion pattern on the sewing machine and the thread is the right color.

At this point, you should be enjoying your tea with a friend or mom concentrating on how this cushion will look in your brand new futon. You want to sew together all sides but one. You always want to leave once side open for stuffing. Before you close the cushion you want to separate the stuffing and place it neatly and nicely into the cushion.

Make sure you start out with the corners leaving them nicely stuffed before you stuff the middle portion of it. By this time, there is very little you need to do. Taking one last zip of your tea, you want to supervise for any sides that are not well put together.

Once having that supervised and completed you want to start closing the side by hand.

You want to hold both sides leaving one inch fold to complete this project. You want to hold the flap and squeeze the flap so the sides actually make a fold and your fabric doesn't slide again.

As I said, there is need for the cup of tea. At this time you are almost done and you need to exercise your patience to keep holding the cushion side as well as sewing both parts together. You want to make sure you sew very neatly keeping the thread in between both folds and keeping it not visible for better look. This concludes making cushions, hope you had fun and cheers with your tea.

Good Day
