Erasing Browser History in IE

Your browser history keeps a track of all the websites you have visited the last few days. By default Internet Explorer keeps your history for twenty days or less. Anyone who has access to your computer can easily open the browser history and check everything that you have seen or clicked on this period of time. Even if you have nothing to hide, just the feeling of having someone checking you and your online preferences feels weird doesn’t it?

Erasing your browser history can help you protect your privacy above all. You can prevent curious and indiscreet people from checking the web pages you have been visiting. If you are working on Internet Explorer, here is what you need to do, in order to erase browser history.

Go to Tools Menu on IE

Click on Internet Options

You will see a button ‘Clear History’. Click on that. You will be asked if you are sure that you want to erase browser history. Click Yes.

You are done. This is something you can do every time you want to erase browser history. It is recommended though to always erase cookies and Temporary Internet Files as well, because a PC savvy person can check the websites you have visited, even from these files.

It is also recommended to configure Internet Explorer this way so that it doesn’t keep records of your browsing history. You will see at Internet Options, that you can check how many days you want IE to keep records of the pages you visited. If you set it at 0, every time you close the browser, your history will be automatically erased. This is an easy and safe way to erase browser history, without doing it automatically every single time. It is more than certain that when you are in a hurry, or you want to finish something you are doing, you will forget erasing it, therefore your browsing history will be again available to anyone with access to your PC.

Some people also use specific software that erases all files, folders, cookies and the Internet Cache, ensuring that there is absolutely no trace of their browsing history left in IE.
